Thermal Direct

Thermal Direct labels are made from heat-sensitive material that turns black when it comes into contact with the thermal printhead. As a cost-effective media option, thermal direct printing is ideal for printing sharp, clear barcodes. Typical applications include short-life transport labels and labelling in cold environments. No thermal ribbon is required with thermal direct labels.

Because Thermal Direct material reacts to heat, it is also sensitive to sunlight, which can cause the label to darken. Scuffing or rubbing during transport may also mark the surface, and the printed image can fade over time, making this technology best suited for short-term labelling needs.

Thermal Transfer

Thermal Transfer printing uses a heat-sensitive ribbon that transfers ink onto the label material when activated by the thermal printhead.

This method produces a permanent, crisp image that is far more durable than thermal direct printing, making it ideal for long-life product labelling and applications where products are stored outdoors or exposed to direct sunlight.

Finished Format

Your labels can be supplied in a range of formats to suit your printing requirements:

  • Rolls. Labels wound onto cores, available in various core sizes to suit your specific printer brand and model.
  • Fanfold bundles. Labels stacked in alternating folds rather than on a roll. Fanfold formats are ideal for larger quantities and help reduce the frequency of rolls changes.
  • A4 sheets. Labels cut so each label or label set is presented on an individual sheet. This format is commonly used when labels are overprinted using a laser printer instead of a thermal printer.

Specialty Application

Need a tough label for harsh outdoor conditions? Applying labels in a freezer environment? After extra-long rolls for print-and-apply automation? Want to use colour labels as visual cues for your team? Or perhaps you need a tag instead of an adhesive label?

insignia can custom match your label material, adhesive, size and format — ensuring you have right label for your job.
