GS1 NEXUS Recap 2019
Recently, insignia sponsored and exhibited at GS1’s annual supply chain conference, back for its 7th year but with a new name and a new structure. GS1 Nexus 2019 was held on the 14th & 17th May in Melbourne and Sydney. Nexus is defined as a connection or series of connections linking two or more things, like a supply chain. To be at the nexus of something is to be at the centre.
Across a full day, multiple industry experts facilitated interactive presentations and panels on key topics impacting supply chain with a focus on four key industries – healthcare, food & beverage, online retail and rail.
The first half of the day took a holistic approach to supply chain and addressed the main trends affecting the supply of goods. Brad Fraser for Woolworths Group led an informative session on automated warehousing and technology disruption in the supply chain. He spoke about how the technology being implemented into distribution centres and warehouses are leading manufacturers to be more stringent with their shipping procedures to ensure their deliveries are compliant.
After breaking for lunch, delegates gathered again for second half of the conference which split into separate streams for each of the four industries. Speakers delved into the factors impacting supply within food & beverage, online retail, healthcare and rail. At the Melbourne event, John Bacon from Coles Liquor Group shared a presentation on the changing retail landscape in the food & beverage sector and how it will in turn affect distribution.
In between sessions, delegates were invited to explore the marketplace where GS1 partners like insignia were exhibiting their solutions. We displayed a range of solutions across our range, from coding, labelling, thermal printing, data capture and mobility.
All in all, it was an informative event that addressed the key industry trends and how manufacturers and retailers alike should be preparing for future of supply chain.
