Axicon is a globally accredited solution provide with GS1 and has specialised in bar code quality systems for over twenty five years. The installation of the Axicon system by insignia further enhances the status insignia has achieved of Strategic Alliance Partner with GS1 Australia.
The Axicon Online Verification system was installed at insignia after research lead insignia to conclude the Axicon system was the best technology available worldwide. insignia’s Production Manager, Howard Gill, a major champion of insignia’s focus on quality, was a key driver to bring the system to insignia for its customers. Mr Gill states that "we can offer a 100% guarantee on print quality by utilising this technology which in turn offers assurance for insignia’s customers as they apply our labels to many high cost items".
The Axicon Online Verification System has been positioned on insignia’s Datamax 400 DPI premier production printer. Previously, the barcode verification on printed labels would be checked randomly. Now with the Axicon Online Verification System, insignia’s capabilities are enhanced to provide 100% verification for every barcode on every label printed at insignia. The Axicon Online Verification System ensures quality barcodes, every time.
The new system delivers insignia with a pro-active notification system that advises when deterioration in print quality may have occurred. This allows for action to be taken to increase print quality before it falls below the required standard resulting in increased efficiency and reducing production down time.
Independent testing carried out by the UCC rates "the Axicon system the most consistent and reliable on the market". After a relatively straight forward commissioning of the Axicon system, Mr Gill reports that ‘insignia’s experienced operators are delighted with the results obtained’.

- When a manufacturer packs a box with any given item, a Unique Identifying Number (UID) can be assigned to the box.
- A relational database can be created to relate the UID to relevant information about the box; such as order number, items packed, qty packed, final destination, etc…
- The information can be transmitted through a communication system such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) so the retailer has the information about a shipment before it arrives.
- Tracking results when shipments are sent to a Distribution Center (DC) before being forwarded to the final destination.
- When the shipment gets to the final destination, the UID gets scanned, and the store knows where the order came from, what's inside the box, and how much to pay the manufacturer.
