The Queensland Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA's) recognise excellence in printing and graphic arts in Queensland across a wide range of technologies and skills. The event highlights the achievements attained by the printing industry and endeavours to contribute in raising the standards to worldwide levels. The 2009 PICA’s took place in November 2009 in Brisbane, QLD. insignia entered the Flexographic Printing category with Petco’s ‘Vitalife’ Label and Fresh Approach’s ‘BBQ Meatlovers Pizza’ label, and won award’s for both: the Gold Medal for the Petco label and the Silver Medal for Fresh Approach.
The awards are independently judged on the following criteria:
1. Quality of design
2. Excellence and quality of pre-press
3. Excellence and quality of printing
4. Excellence and quality of finishing.
Gold medal winners from the Queensland PICA Awards are automatically entered into the 27th National Print Awards where they will compete with Gold Medal winning entries from other states. The National Print Awards are hosted by The Printing Industries Association of Australia and will be held at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre on 26 March 2010.The National Print Awards celebrate excellence in the craft of printing produced in Australia and continue to be instrumental in lifting the standard of printing Australia-wide. The awards are also recognised internationally.
Howard Gill, Manufacturing Operations Manager for insignia said that “We’re delighted insignia have won several Gold Medals from the label and print industries in the same year. Winning Gold again is further evidence of the high quality standards we’re able to consistently achieve”. insignia also won a Gold Medal and the prestigious ‘Best In Show’ at the 2009 LATMA Awards, held by the Label & Tag Manufacturers Association of Australia, for their Fletchers Kalamata Olives label.
