With over 40 years experience in the industry, insignia is a leading, national label manufacturer. With a focus on quality every step of the way, insignia represents quality award-winning labels, quality brands and quality people. Years of experience and a wealth of industry knowledge is what makes insignia your labelling people, but their passion for what they do is what makes award-winning labels. At the recent 2009 LATMA Awards, label converters around Australia, including insignia, were able to showcase a number of their labels and be recognised for outstanding printing skills.
LATMA is the Label and Tag Manufacturers Association of Australia and the objective of the LATMA Awards is to ‘stimulate innovative printing and to recognise technical achievement in the label industry’. The competition allows label manufacturers across Australia to showcase their work and be rewarded for their efforts. It also exposes new printing methods and techniques to the industry, letting innovation further creativity and drive competition.
There are 18 categories that converters may enter, covering a variety of label printing methods and techniques. Each category may be awarded the Gold Medal, Silver Medal or Honourable Mention awards. The judges base their decisions on a points system, marking against various criteria that range from label function to print quality to secondary converting such as die-cutting or embossing techniques. Awards are only granted if the judges deem the labels entered to be worthy of merit – this year there were a total of 13 Gold Medals awarded. The Best in Show Award is then selected from these Gold Medal winners.
As an entrant and award winner in the LATMA Awards since 2005, insignia was this year well rewarded for their passion and skill, taking home a total of four awards: A Gold Medal for the Fletchers Kalamata Olives label and a Highly Commended Award for Six Star Solutions Bug & Tar Remover labelin the ‘Flexo – Colour Process’ category; A Highly Commended Award for National Portrait Gallery’s ticket in the ‘Non-Pressure Sensitive Material’ category; and the prestigious Best in Show Award for Fletchers Kalamata Olives label, making insignia the overall winner of the show and indeed a leader of quality label printing within Australia.
Peter Petran, Director of RotoMetrics Australia - the proud sponsor of the LATMA Awards – said that “There were a record number of entrants this year and the standard of entries was perceived to be extremely high by the judges. The Best of Show Award, won by insignia, was a unanimous decision by the judging panel”.
After receiving the Best in Show Award and Gold award for the Fletchers Kalamata Olives label, insignia will now represent Australia internationally at the World Label Association Awards in Brussels in September against the US, Japan, India, Russia, New Zealand and Europe.
Jack Winson, General Manager of insignia was overjoyed with the company’s achievements: “We were thrilled with winning the Gold and Honourable Mention awards, but to take home the Best in Show Award with such a high level of competition really is an honour and a credit to the dedication and skill of our employees. It’s going to be very exciting to be able to showcase our label converting skills on the world stage”.
The win is a pleasing addition to the company’s development anticipated within insignia’s five year plan, Good to Great, which is about growing as a company in both sales and skills. insignia’s National Sales and Marketing Manager, Andy Hecke, said that the awards “play a large part in the measurement of our success – they have further validated our platform of quality”.
The winning label of Fletchers Kalamata Olives was a perfect example of insignia’s dedication to a Labelling Partnership with their customers. insignia was privileged to partner Fletchers throughout the label-making process, from design through to the finished label.
Fletchers provided insignia with a creative brief for the prime label and enlisted the help of insignia’s Pre-Press Designers and Business Development Managers. The insignia team worked with Fletchers to achieve the results that they were after – a quality label perfectly suited to its function and purpose as the brand custodian for their product. Award-winning status was just another bonus!
The design was created by our Graphic Artists, and then processed through Esko Software, which is an industry leading prepress, flexo-specific software that enhances graphics further. The label itself was manufactured on an 8-colour Mark Andy Flexographic UV Press, by one of insignia’s skilled printers, Luke Ramsey. insignia’s Operations Manager, Howard Gill, said that “Having the right processes and equipment combined with our highly-skilled people all contributed to the end result - it was a real team effort and it is exciting to be recognised as having produced the premier label in Australia”.
insignia offers its customers a total labelling solution – from custom printed, overprint and blank labels through to labelling systems such as coders, label applicators or thermal printers. If the support of a national service infrastructure and the peace of mind of GS1 accreditation isn’t enough, then surely award-winning quality is the perfect reason to begin a Labelling Partnership with insignia.
